Thanks for stopping by! My name is Matt Spillar, owner of Spills Spot. The blog name’s origin is from one of my nicknames, “Spills” (due to my last name), and this is a place where I can share my thoughts about personal finance, paying off debt, budgeting, and building wealth.

I started Spills Spot in January 2016, with the thought that the blog could be a portfolio for my writing. I quickly realized that my vision for the site was much bigger than a portfolio. Through writing about personal finance I discovered a new passion. I wanted to share what I was learning in my money journey with as many people as possible, to help them along their own journey.

Over the past few years, my wife and I have paid off over $55,000 in consumer debt (student loans and car loan), reaching debt freedom! It was a long journey, but being debt free and building wealth is an incredible feeling, a feeling I want to help other people feel in their lives.

My number one focus is to inspire my generation to be more interested in personal finance and improve at managing their money.

People spend 40 or more hours per week working hard to make money, but many don’t even spend an hour per week learning about how to properly manage it. I’m hoping to change that and inspire people.

Money weaves its way into almost all areas of life and can be a huge source of stress. However, by learning how to manage it well, it can bring about a sense of peace. This is what I want to help people achieve, helping my generation become better at managing their financial situation so they can win with money and reach their goals!
